Andrew Cuomo, once a pandemic hero, now finds himself entangled in a criminal referral to the Department of Justice. Things are getting very real for the former governor very quickly. He may soon face trial.
Cuomo’s Rising Star and Pandemic Glory
During the pandemic’s early stages, Andrew Cuomo emerged as a symbol of calm leadership amidst the chaos. His daily briefings and decisive decision-making earned him national accolades, portraying him as a beacon of hope. The Department of Justice is now scrutinizing those same decisions, seeming like an elaborate punchline in the saga of failed political aspirations.
Cuomo’s methodical handling of the crisis garnered praise, but his administration’s controversial advisory in March 2020 recommended nursing homes to accept COVID-positive patients, allegedly resulting in increased deaths. Gravely contradicting federal guidelines, this decision illuminates the discrepancies in leadership that plague politicians in their ivory towers.

The Fall from Grace
The US House committee’s referral to the DOJ outlines Cuomo’s alleged false statements about a July 2020 report underreporting nursing home deaths by 46%. Allegedly, emails depict his direct involvement in the report’s drafting, flipping his public pronouncements on their head. The measures taken were perhaps a self-defense against what seemed like impending doom encircling his political throne.
“Andrew Cuomo lied not only to Congress, but also grieving families after sending their loved ones to Covid-filled nursing homes against CDC guidelines, to protect his $5 million book deal. He should face accountability for all of it.” – Brad Lander, New York City Comptroller
Despite the murmurings of defeat, Cuomo’s legal labyrinth only widens. Allegations by subcommittee Chairman Brad Wenstrup of conspiracy with media figure Janice Dean further ignite the theater of revelations. Whether rewriting history or mirroring its lessons, Cuomo’s journey this last year defied his previous decade’s resilience.

The Road to Resignation and Beyond
Cuomo’s resignation in August 2021 amidst sexual harassment allegations, though consistently denied by him, faced harsh scrutiny. It underscored how swiftly the spotlight can shift from hero to villain in politics’ turbulent landscape. The ensuing investigations and implications of nursing home deaths prompt society to reassess its acclamation of political figures.
As the echoes of controversy reverberate, Cuomo encounters the ultimate test: the court of public opinion. Whether contemplating a return to political life or fading into history’s annals, the specter of nursing home policies and waning public trust loom large.
“Andrew Cuomo, once a pandemic hero,”???????? Are you kidding me? A hero to who, Tony Fauci? This guy put COVID patients in nursing homes with the most vulnerable of all; the elderly in failing health. Why one might ask. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was to purposely kill them off to get them off the welfare rolls as many in nursing homes are.
